p. 156 -163: Descripition of Aboriginal society and lifestyle reflecting authors opinion that it is very unadvanced; author's opinion that Aboriginal society has no laws or governance; bark huts; firemaking; clothing of girdles and skins; use of fish oil on skin, body decorations of animal teeth, shark jaws; nose-piercing; division of labour; women doing most of work; infanticide of female children; method of carrying children; tooth avulsion as part of initiation ceremony; courtship involving blows to the woman's head with a waddy; polygamy; Aboriginal possession of acute senses: ability to track; sense possums in trees by smell; Aboriginal belief that white people are Aboriginal people returned from the dead; indolence; inability to succeed at agriculture due to impatience for end product; Aborigines of Sydney district uninterested in the benefits of civilisation, only in its vices; Authors belief that only the effors of missionaries will prevent the extermination of the Aboriginal race.
