Summary

"From au uncertain start, soccer in Adelaide grew from a minor pastime played by a handful of enthusiasts in the City Parklands, into the major international sport it is today, capable of filling the new Adelaide Oval to capacity. The founders of the game in Adelaide guided the code through the two world wars and major splits and breakaways. Post-World War II the influx of Europeans into the local game led to a cultural change which brought the SA Soccer Football Association to an end in 1962. The new SA Soccer Federation took over and led the game into the modern era. Clubs and people are at the heart of the game, and this book details all the clubs founded between 1902 and 1962 and the key players and administrators associated with them. It follows the successes and failures of the clubs and lists all trophies and honours. It tells the story of the first 60 years of soccer in South Australia - a game now becoming more frequently known as simply 'football'"--Back cover.
