Mandawuy Djarrtjuntjun Yunupingu, was an Aboriginal Australian musician and educator. In 1986 he co-founded the Aboriginal rock group Yothu Yindi which won eight ARIA music awards including Song of the Year for Treaty. In 1992 Yunupingu was named Australian of the Year for his role in building bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.--Information from reference sources.
