- Summary:
-
A letterpress broadside printed by Derek Lamb from handset wood type, ornaments, and 16 point Arrighi type (for the legend at the bottom), using an 1887 Alexandra Press, on Magnani Velata Avorio 200 gsm paper (unfortunately some of the last from the now defunct mill at Pescia). Catwalk appears in 40 line gothic bold in marbled orange and silver letters (it had to be printed in four passes to accommodate the overlap and two transparent inks and finally register the silver over the original impressions). Surrounding it are some of the lyrics of "I'm Too Sexy," the catchy song by Right Said Fred, originally released in 1991, and frequently featured as fashion show runway music. The black text is 60 and 48 point Empire by American Type Founders, and the mauve text is 8 line Kabel (an additional four passes were required as the printer ran out of certain ornaments and letters). This was one of a series of ten large typographic posters on the subject of fashion shown in conjunction with a haute couture exhibition at Rockhampton Art Gallery, "Coming into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast" (another companion exhibition featured local Rockhampton jewellers and milliners).
