Poster of artwork promoting the Australian national airline's services to Japan, showing a painting of a childlike doll dressed in a kimono, holding a biwa, a traditional four-stringed lute. Beside the figure are a horagai, or large conch shell traditionally used as a trumpet, a peacock feather and a sprig of cherry blossom. A small silhouette of a plane appears at the top right. Qantas operated its first commercial flights to Japan in 1947, and used the Douglas DC-4 Skymaster for the service from 1949.
- Biography/History:

"Frank Nanninga (1920-1999) was born in Medan, Sumatra, son of a Dutch banker. The family returned to the Netherlands where Frank studied at the Royal Academy of Art, den Hague, until interred as a hostage by the Nazis. By 1950 he was a commercial artist with one known exhibition at David Jones, Sydney.
