Biography/History

Naturalist and first Quaker missionary in Australia. He visited homes, penal and Aboriginal settlements in Van Diemen's land from 1833-1834, and in New South Wales from 1835-1837. See "Australian dictionary of biography", vol. 1, p. 45-46.

Notes

National Library of Australia's FC F2434 copy is half-bound in black leather with five raised bands, marbled boards; bears the bookplate of J.W. Beattie by Norman Lindsay pasted inside the front cover and a label for D. Batten, Bookbinder, Library, Clapham Common inside the back cover.

Each part has separate title page.

A variant of Ferguson numbers 3152a and 3354.

Parts 1-5 concern their visit to Van Dieman's Land and New South Wales.

Part 6 "Though dealing with Mauritius and the voyage thither from Australia, there is a short account of Western Australia at page 3."--Bibliography of Australia.
