- Biography/History:
-
Frank Putnam Jolls was born on 12 May 1867 and died on 18 February 1905 (aged 37). It is not known when he took over the business of E. D. Chapin, who was recorded in the 1880 census as a 36 year old silversmith in Attica, New York.
Another variant of the card (which may have been a stock image) is known, with advertising for George L. Clapp of Ithaca, New York, a manufacturer of carriages and sleighs. In the 1880 census Clapp (aged 30) is recorded as a wagon maker in Dryden, about 12 miles east of Ithaca; in 1900 (aged 50) he had moved to Ulysses, about 10 miles northwest of Ithaca, with his occupation recorded as farmer.
