- Summary:
-
Frederick Lothian, retired professor of engineering, world expert on conrete and hoarder of mid-century design has moved to a retirement village and is waiting to die. His wife has passed away and he no longer sees his two adult children. Surrounded by boxes of family memorabilia he can't bear to throw away and beautiful modernist chairs too big for his tiny flat, Fred finds he cannot escape from his memories. He is filled with regret for the things he did wrong, and for the things he failed to do at all. When Fred's neighbour, Jan, asks for help, he is initially resistant. As their friendship unfolds, Fred begins to realise that this may be his last chance to make amends. After a lifetime of selfish decisions, can he build bridges back to the people he loves?
