Sydney - We Need to Talk! is a collection of short interventions about the politics of urbanisation. This illustrated book is an experiment with collaborative short-form writing. It emerged from a series of weekly meetings that have been taking place for over a year in the Madsen Building at the University of Sydney. The urban crew (Brittany Betteridge, Pratichi Chatterjee, Leah Emmanuel, Amy Fairall, Bradley Garrett, Mini Graff, Kurt Iveson, Rupert Legg, Sophia Maalsen, Marilu Melo, Wendy Murray, Madeleine Pill, Dallas Rogers, Jathan Sadowski, Alistair Sisson, Amanda Tattersall, Sophie Webber) is a group of geographers, planners, political scientists and sociologists, comprising academic staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students, who contributed to this publication as a way of extending their collective practice from talking together to writing together and publishing together, to see what exciting new ideas and relationships this might generate. Each piece involves a dialogue between both people and places (each essay also goes somewhere else: Sydney meets - 'Sydney X' - another city) dealing with themes from displacement and digitalisation to decommodification and democratization.
