The Reflections photographic portrait project of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) ran for two years from 2015 to 2017, and aimed to photograph as many as possible of the remaining veterans who served during World War II. To create this significant archive that recognises the contribution and sacrifice of these once youthful veterans, 450 accredited photographers volunteered their time to make sensitive portraits of over 6500 servicemen and women. Participating veterans from around Australia registered online, and after their portrait sessions were each given a complimentary print for their families. In August 2017, the AIPP presented the Australian War Memorial with a digital archive from the project, and each portrait was made available as part of the Memorial’s online collection and displayed in a special photography installation in the Second World War galleries. In addition, a one-off set of archival books of the portraits has been created, and was formally donated to the National Library by the AIPP and Momento Pro on 7 November 2018.
