Newspaper cuttings from the Australian press clippings collection covering geographic places, including Australian states, towns and geographical features. Content covers the time period from the late 19th century to 1992.
- Notes:
- Includes articles from the period 1881 to 1992. Many of the early articles are from the Sydney Morning Herald on the history of the island including the munity in 1834. Other early articles are about convict history, the penal settlement, ghost stories and the centenary in 1956. Many of the more recent articles are on the enquiry on the legal and constitutional relationship to Australia in the 1970s, including the 1977 appeal to the United Nations against being politically incorporated into Australia and a call for self-government. Many articles from 1978 are on the change to limited self-government with no Australian tax laws. There are also articles about the restoration of the penal colony and the 200 year anniversary of the seizure of the Bounty in 1989.
