Summary

This series of fact sheets provide new findings from the 2016 National Social Housing Survey, a survey of tenants in public housing, community housing and state owned and managed Indigenous housing in Australia. This sheet looks at the characteristics and circumstances of households with children. In 2016, around 1 in 10 social housing tenants identified as Indigenous, and these tenants were more likely to live in households with children or extended family than were non-Indigenous tenants. The sheet also compares how these tenants differed from non-Indigenous households in their responses to questions about satisfaction with their housing provider, proximity to facilities and services, use of community and support services, and the benefits of living in social housing.
