Summary

This is an update of an interview with Sir Richard Kingsland conducted for the National Library in 1981. That interview covered his retirement as Chair of the Repatriation Commission in 1981 after having served as Secretary of three Commonwealth Government Departments-Interior, Repatriation and Veterans Affairs. This interview covers the following of his activities: his study tour of Europe while attending the Imperial Defence College in 1955; a visit to the South Pole; his accidental discovery in Paris of a well-known Rupert Bunny painting which Sir Richard bought & later donated to the National Gallery; his views on the organisation of theCommonwealth Public Service; his activities since retirement, encompassing some 20 different jobs.
