Title devised by cataloguer.

"It is highly probable that the album's compiler and owner is the same George Berner (born circa 1829) who in 1886, while employed as the Chief Clerk in the Railway Branch of the New South Wales Department of Public Works, was convicted of embezzzlement and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. Berner had formerly been manager of the Newcastle Coal and Copper Company, his appointment to that position by the company's head office in Sydney was announced in a notice in the Sydney Empire, 1 July 1859...he remained with his family in Newcastle during the early 1860s. This is precisely the period when the present album is likely to have been bound. By 1864 he was back in Sydney...having established himself as an independent shipping and commission agent in Sussex Street...he was dragged through the insolvency court...in 1868, 1872 and 1876...on March 26 1880 his appointment as Chief Clerk in the Railway Branch, Department of Public Works was announced..."--bookseller's catalogue.
