- Biography/History:
-
Pan American World Airways, commonly known as Pan Am, was the principal United States international air carrier from 1927 until 1991. Pan Am started calling their airplanes "clippers" in the era of the flying boat, and maintained this tradition for all of their aircraft names and call signs. The airline commenced a regular service to Australia in March 1951, although they originally hoped to begin services in mid-1950.
