Description [Sydney] : [Wendy Murray], [2017]
1 poster : colour ; 102 x 69 cm
Summary

A poster that Sydney musician Tim Gray (a Gumbaynggirr man) and Wendy Murray developed while having a cup of coffee in Redfern and subsequently produced using the old skool technique of Letraset. The poster takes the form of a baggage transfer tag or mailing label and is a contribution to the campaign to change the date of Australia Day in the lead up to and beyond 26 January 2017. The proposed alternative date of 27 May (coinciding in 2017 with the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum, which saw over 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Commonwealth the power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and recognise them in the national census) was first observed as Reconciliation Day in the Australian Capital Territory in 2018 (held each year on the first Monday on or after the 1967 Referendum anniversary date of 27 May, which also marks the start of National Reconciliation Week). The poster was also issued in a monochrome version printed in black in an edition of 80.
