Our opening hours will be changing between Tuesday 24 December 2019 and Wednesday 1 January 2020.

All reading rooms will be closed from Christmas Day, reopening on 2 January. But you’ll still be able to visit our Exhibition Galleries, our children’s holiday space, WordPlay, and Bookshop from 9am-5pm (except on Christmas Day).Bookplate café will also be open during this period, but with varied hours.

Summary

The collection comprises papers relating to the work of Bruce Blyth, an advocate for Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants, particularly in Western Australia and includes: documents relating to published books on this issue; written accounts of children who experienced abuse in institutions; administrative files relating to the VOICES organisation which Blyth founded in 1991; papers relating to legal cases and senate inquiries; and documents relating to the court case of children abused in institutions and the work of lawyers, Slater and Gordon, on the case.

Biography/History

Bruce Blyth was an advocate and campaigner for Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants, particularly those in the care of the Christian Brothers. Blyth published several books, worked on the terms of reference for the 2001 Senate Community Affairs References Committee inquiry into child migration, and founded the advocacy organisation Victims of Institutionalised Cruelty, Exploitation and Supporters (VOICES).
