- Biography/History:

Writer. Katharine Susannah Prichard was born in Levuka, Fiji, in 1883, the daughter of Thomas Henry Prichard, and grew up in Australia. She worked as a journalist and editor and became a writer of fiction. Her first published novel was The pioneers (1915), followed by Windlestraws (1916), Black opal (1921), Working bullocks (1926), Coonardoo (1928), Haxby's circus (1929), Intimate strangers (1939), The roaring nineties (1946), Golden miles (1948) and Winged seeds (1950). In 1919, she married Victoria Cross recipient Hugo Throssell and their son, Ric Throssell, was born in 1922. She was a member of the Communist Party from 1919. Prichard died in Greenmount, Western Australia, in 1969.
