- Inscriptions: "Noted aviator, explorer is here, New York, above is pictured Captain Frank Hurley, noted aviator and explorer, who is here after two years in the New Guinea where he made extensive explorations. Captain Hurley was a member for the Mawson Expedition from 1911 to 1914 and joined the late Sir Ernest Shackleton's South Polar expedition 1914 to 1917. He was the official photographer to the Australian Forces during the world war and returned in time to join Capt. Ross Smith's flight from London to Australia. He is shown above with one of his interesting trophies, an Australian bushman's boomerang."--Typed label on reverse; "11/11/23"--In coloured pencil on reverse.
