Summary

MS 9531 comprises letters from Jack Beasley to Gordon Neil Stewart. Some newspaper clippings of book reviews are also included (1 box).

The Acc10.046 instalment comprises draft manuscripts of unpublished fiction and nonfiction works by Stewart, including "The general mixture: the Indian Army and British rule" (1947), "The French revolution" (1946), "Hungary's football challenge" (undated), and "The claimant: a Manchester and Australian affair" (ca. 1990). There is also the eulogy of the life of Gordon Neil Stewart by Jack Beasley, 1999 (1 box).

Biography/History

Journalist and author. Gordon Neil Stewart was born in Melbourne in 1912. He worked as a journalist in London and later for the mining and construction industry in Sydney. He was the author of short stories and the historical novel House of bondage (1975) and nonfiction works The fight for the charter (1937), Blanqui (1939), and The cloak and dollar war (1953). He edited the anthology, Australian stories of horror and suspense from the early days, in 1978. He also published under the name Neil Stewart. Stewart died in Bathurst, New South Wales, in 1999.
