Collection of photographs documenting men women and children daily activities in their village communities. Scenes of food preparation, buildings shelters, display of carvings, yam planting, gardening, weaving, fishing, ritual feasts, birth and death ceremonies.
Phyllis Kaberry, Australian anthropologist, carried out fieldwork between 1939 and 1940 the Sepik district of the League of Nations Mandated Territory of New Guinea. Herbert Ian Hogbin, also anthropologist conducted a series of field studies between 1933 and 1934 in Malanesia, first in Guadalcanal and Malaita in the British Solomon Islands Protectorate, and then in Wogea in the Territory of New Guinea. Hogbin served in the Directorate of Research and Civil Affairs as a lieutenant colonel--Information from reference source.
