This collection comprises the 1952 diary of Geoffrey Luck, who spent three weeks as an ABC radio journalist covering the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme, where he worked with diamond drillers, electricians, road building crews and in power stations. The diary records Luck's daily experiences and observations, as well as interviews with people he met and lived with at the time including German, Polish, Russian and English workers, retailing their life stories and their war experiences. The diary also provides an example of journalistic practice at a time when shorthand recording was common, and when journalists worked more extensively on site/in the field. The collection also includes transcripts (on USB), photographs and maps, correspondence and notes relating to the interviews with Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme workers.The collection also includes records relating to the 1976 dispute between the News Division and Current Affairs Department of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) about who had the right and responsibility to cover national events and includes telex messages covering meetings of the Australian Journalists Association (AJA); records relating to a seminar Luck organized on July 17, 1976 with representatives from every state ABC newsroom and the resulting report titled " The Future of the ABC News Service" with recommendations to amalgamate News and Current Affairs; a paper delivered by Keith Fraser to the ABC journalists at the seminar; a 1972 ABC News Service Style Notes; a 1972 ABC News Division News Directive; plus a summary of events written by Luck in October 2020.
