Biography/History

K. Bowes and Co., Ltd., was an Adelaide diecaster and electrical englneering company which manufactured an electric stand food mixer that was first advertised for £14/19/6 by John Martins in The Advertiser (Adelaide), 2 December 1949, page 5, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article74659267. The mixer came with two bowls, a pair of beaters, a variable three speed switch. The manufacturer believed that with 'proper care your "K.B.C." mixer will last a lifetime'.

Ken Bowes started his business in 1936 operating out of his home garage in Forestville, SA with 9 employees. In 1938 KBC opened a factory in Woodlands Park, SA and by 1949 had 90 employees (Australasian Manufacturer Annual 1949). In 1948, before introducing the mixer, they launched the ¼" KBC Electric Drill (The Hardware Journal 1948). --http://powertoolstudy.blogspot.com/p/other.html, viewed October 2020.
