Summary

MS Acc00/17 comprises correspondence, contributions and other records relating to Verills' editorship of The realist, together with other papers such as his own creative writings (8 boxes).

The Acc03/91 instalment consists of numbered diaries spanning 1971-1999. Missing from the series are volumes 83, 85, 94, 95, 98, 99, 100 and 102 (5 boxes).

Biography/History

Editor and writer. Under the name Ray Williams, Raymond Ernest Verrills edited the journal The realist, formerly The realist writer, from 1962 until it ceased publication in 1970. During his lifetime, Verrills built up a research collection of over 9000 books relating to Australian literature, and left-wing politics and philosophy in Australia, from the 1940s onwards, and overseas.
