Notes

Map of eastern Australia (extending east of the 130°̊E meridian) covering what is now the Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria showing towns, rivers, counties and police divisions. The Nineteen Counties are shown in detail around Sydney extending from the Manning River down to Bateman's Bay, and intended according to the futile 1829 proclamation by Governor Darling to limit future settlement within these 19 counties. Includes at lower right of the map a referenced listing for counties in New South Wales and in the inset for Van Dieman's Land a referenced listing of police divisions. The map also features some explorers' routes and historical annotations about particular places but there is no key to make easier interpretation of these discoveries. This is the second state of this map characterised by one placename along the coastline of Arnhem Land, i.e. "Coburg Pa. Victoria", previously given in the first state as "Coburg Peninsula". Relief is shown by hachures with annotations about local topography.

Tooley notes that this map was originally issued as part of a 2 sheet set. The first sheet showing the western side of Australia including parts of North and South Australia was entitled "Australia from surveys made by order of the British Government combined with those of D'Entrecasteaux, Baudin, Freycinet, &c., &c." The second sheet showing the eastern side of Australia is entitled "Eastern portion of Australia", and it includes an inset of Van Diemen's Land. However, these same two sheets have also been issued in a one sheet version which is entitled the same as the first sheet of the 2 sheet set without the title of the second sheet.
