Summary

Lange speaks about joining the South Australian public service in 1943 as a typist in the Legal Adoptions Section of the Children's Welfare and Public Relief Board. She outlines adoption services and staff; defines 'Homes'; and cites examples of 'statements' taken from relinquishing mothers. She describes the duties of country inspectors and their relationship with police; the criteria for children at risk; the conditions at Seaforth Home; the record-keeping system; the structure of state departments; standard follow-up procedure on babies; the procedures of the Adoption Court; Police records used in evidence; and consent forms. Lange worked at the Board until her marriage in the early 1950s.
