Bringing them home oral history project.

Summary

Simms speaks about being removed from his family at the age of 3 and being placed at Bomaderry Children's Home, N.S.W., where he feels the children were well cared for. In 1935, he was transferred to Kinchela Boys' Home, and he describes harsher conditions at this institution. In 1942, Simms went to work on a poultry farm and the family there assisted him to get an apprenticeship as a mechanic. He worked as a motor mechanic from 1945 until 1965, when he went to work at the Aborigines Welfare Board. He returned to Kinchela Boys' Home as the manager for three years until its closure in 1970. Simms expresses his opinions on Reconciliation and the issue of compensation to separated children.
