On July 1, 1975 the postal and telecommunications operations of this dept. were taken over by Australia Post and Telecom Australia. From July 1, 1975 to Dec. 21, 1975 the Postmaster-General's Dept. administered the responsibilities that remained after the transfer of the postal and telecommunications operations. On Dec. 22, 1975 this Dept. was abolished and with the Dept. of Media formed the Postal and Telecommunications Dept. (The "Postmaster-General's Department ... through popular usage became known as the Australian Post Office. " cf. Australia. Postmaster-General's Dept. Annual report, 1975, p. 36.)
