The American Engineering Standards Committee was established in 1917. Following a reorganization in 1928, the name was changed to American Standards Association. The United States of America Standards Institute was founded in 1966 to supersede the association. In 1969 the institute's name was changed to American National Standards Institute. Works by these bodies are found under the name used at the time of publication
