Prior to 1956 the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration exercised both arbitral and judicial functions. In 1956 the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission was established and assumed the arbitral powers, and the Commonwealth Industrial Court assumed most of the judicial powers.
