The position of Supervising Scientist for the Alligator Rivers Region was established in 1978. In February 1994 legislation came in to effect that brought the office under the Public Service Act as part of the Environment Protection Group. In order to reflect the broader scope of the work done the words "for the Alligator Rivers Region" were dropped from the name. Works by this body are entered under the name used at the time of publication
