The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics was established in 1957 in Karachi and moved to Dacca in 1970. Early in 1971, the body moved to Islamabad. Later in 1971, some members moved back to Dacca and took the name Bangladesh Institute of Development Economics, and in 1974 changed its name to Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies, whilst those remaining in Islamabad continued to use the name Pakistan Institute of Development Economics. Works by these bodies are found under the name used at the time of publication
