The Board of Commissioners of the District of Columbia was appointed in 1874. In 1967 it was abolished and replaced by the Commissioner of the District of Columbia and the District of Columbia City Council. In 1975 the latter was replaced by the elected Mayor-City Council Government. Works by these bodies are found under the names used at the time of publication
