Joshua Ives Hammer (born June 12, 1957) is an American journalist and foreign freelance correspondent
and bureau chief
for Newsweek and in Europe. While at Newsweek - he was the Nairobi Bureau Chief from 1993 to 1996, the South American Bureau Chief from 1996–1997, the Los Angeles Bureau Chief from 1997–2001, the Berlin Bureau Chief from 2000–2001, the Jerusalem Bureau Chief
His articles have appeared in The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, Smithsonian, and many more.
