Our opening hours will be changing between Tuesday 24 December 2019 and Wednesday 1 January 2020.

All reading rooms will be closed from Christmas Day, reopening on 2 January. But you’ll still be able to visit our Exhibition Galleries, our children’s holiday space, WordPlay, and Bookshop from 9am-5pm (except on Christmas Day).Bookplate café will also be open during this period, but with varied hours.

The Industrial and Technological Museum of Victoria was established c.1870. In 1945 legislation was passed changing its name to the Museum of Applied Science of Victoria. In January 1961 it became the Institute of Applied Science of Victoria. Between 1971 and 1983 it was known as the Science Museum of Victoria. On 1 July 1983 it merged with the National Museum of Victoria to become the Museum of Victoria. In 1998 it changed its name and corporate identity to Museum Victoria. Works by these bodies may be found under the name used at the time of publication
