Est. 1865 by the amalgamation of the Church of Scotland. Synod of Australia, the General Synod of the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales, and the United Presbyterian Church. New South Wales Branch. In 1901 the state churches, while retaining some autonomy, entered into a federal union as the Presbyterian Church of Australia. At this time the Presbyterian Church of New South Wales changed its name to the Presbyterian Church of Australia in the State of New South Wales. Both state and national forms of name are used concurrently. Works by these bodies are entered under the official name used at the time of publication.
