Telecom Australia was established in 1975 and commenced operations on 1 July 1975. Previously the functions of the commission were performed by the Postmaster-General's Dept. On Feb. 1st, 1992, Telecom Australia merged with Overseas Telecommunications Commission (Australia) to become Australian and Overseas Telecommunications Corporation , the name of which was used for official and corporate purposes. In April 1993 Australian and Overseas Telecommunications Corporation became Telstra Corporation Limited which uses both Telstra and Telecom Australia as its domestic trading name. Publications of these bodies can be found under the name used at the time of publication
