Summary:

Section 69 of the Water Act 2000 (the Act) states that the Chief Executive may amend or replace a water management protocol at any time if the amendment: is consistent with the water plan outcomes and the measures that contribute to achieving them; achieves any objectives stated in the plan, including the water allocation security objectives and the environmental flow objectives; and was developed with adequate consultation with persons affected by the protocol as it implements the plan. Section 69 of the Act also states that if the Chief Executive amends or replaces a water management protocol, the chief executive must publish a statement of changes made to the protocol.
