The collection comprises two letters written by John Challenor to a trusted employee of his family’s law firm in Leek, Staffordshire. The letters describe the difficulties and potential of the pearling industry in Western Australia at the turn of the twentieth century.
Biography/History:
John Challenor was an Englishman who worked in north-western Australia and was part-owner of the pearling lugger Gloria, which worked out of Broome.
