- Summary:
-
Emelin is an 11-year-old girl who is suddenly orphaned (virtually a death sentence in fourteenth-century England). To survive, she has to steal a manuscript that belongs to Geoffrey Chaucer, and the only way she can escape the violence that pursues her is to unwillingly team up with a boy named Wolf who has a dark story he refuses to tell. Emelin and Wolf take refuge in Reading Abbey. But Emelin has a gift and it's the only thing that offers her and Wolf any kind of hope.
