Summary: The objective of this paper is to provide a summarised understanding of the groundwaters systems and modelling work undertaken to date in the eastern Galilee Basin. This paper reviews current hydrogeological knowledge based on: existing geological and hydrological data, conceptual groundwater models developed by mining proponents, numerical groundwater models developed by mining proponents. The long term focus is to develop a regional hydrogeological conceptual model, numerical groundwater model and monitoring network to establish a basis for understanding and review of 'potential' impacts to groundwater users in the region. The Galilee Basin is a geological basin underlying western Queensland extending from the town of Alpha in the east, Hughenden in the north and Charleville in the south, in a horseshoe shape around the central towns of Barcaldine, Longreach and Winton.
