"The Guidelines are intended for a broad range of staff who work in libraries and archives and may include volunteers, client services, metadata specialists, archivists, records managers, librarians, and digital services. The Guidelines are to assist libraries and archives as they transform their approaches towards creating reparative descriptions for materials created by or containing information about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. These materials, encompassing cultural heritage and historical information, are commonly known as First Nations Collections. The objective is to facilitate a shift in practices, ensuring that descriptions are respectful, accurate, and considerate of historical biases, and thereby contribute to a more equitable representation of these communities' perspectives and experiences. The Guidelines are created to be system-agnostic and can be adapted for use across the sector. They are not intended to function as a set of strict rules, or the only resource required for cataloguing materials. Instead, their purpose is to provide support in developing and implementing internal cataloguing practices. This approach allows flexibility, interoperability, and the ability to adapt to evolving technological environments. The Guidelines also prioritise acknowledging and safeguarding Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP)." - from Purpose (p. 6)
