- Summary:
-
Mill mud and mill ash are nutrient rich by-products of the production of sugar from milling sugarcane, whilst mud-ash is a nutrient rich blend of both mill mud and mill ash. Three mill mud and four mud-ash blend samples from different Queensland mills across three regions (Bundaberg, Ayr and Tully) were analysed for physical and chemical properties. This project has delivered the first long-term dataset of nitrogen mineralisation from mill mud, as well as parameterised mill mud and mud-ash organic matter pools, enabling future modelling of nitrogen mineralisation and associated nitrogen cycling at the paddock scale.
