On 14 October 2023, Australians voted in a referendum about whether to change the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing a body called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.
Collection documents the Melbourne Walk for Yes event which started in Swanston Street and finished at Federation Square, Melbourne, Victoria. The images document the crowd participating in the rally, Wiradjuri woman Hon Linda Burney MP, Minister for Indigenous Australians, addressing the crowd, live performances from musicians Peter Garrett, Mia Wray, Marlon Motlop and Kram from Spiderbait, with Wirangu Kokatha Guburn man and AFL legend Eddie Betts, ACTU President Michele O'Neil and Marcia Langton, a descendant of the Iman people of Central and Southwestern Queensland, marching in support of the Yes Vote.
