- Summary:
-
"Industrial hemp is utilised in a variety of non-psychoactive products, including food, building materials, plastics, pulp and paper, textiles, bioplastics, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and animal feed. In 2017, changes to Australian legislation (governed by Food Standards Australia New Zealand) to permit the domestic sale of hemp for human consumption (seed and oil) led to rapid growth of the hemp industry in Australia. Despite this, the Australian hemp industry possesses little knowledge on choosing the best-adapted varieties to local environmental conditions. Further, licensing and related administrative costs may limit potential growers from entering the hemp industry. To lessen these uncertainties and to give potential producers confidence, accurate information on local hemp cultivation is required. In turn, this may encourage industry expansion. A nationally coordinated Industrial Hemp Variety Trial (IHVT) program was established to identify suitable varieties in current and future major production environments. ... This report presents the findings from the trial conducted at Katherine Research Station (KRS) in the Northern Territory (NT) in 2022 ... ."--Executive summary.
