- Summary:
-
• The anatomy of the shapes of Australia's native trees including an exploration of the differences between broadleaf and conifer trees • What to grow, and where to find them • An extensive range of models for the styling of native broadleaf bonsai, in an emerging 'Australian Style' • Cultivation practices and development processes • Illustrations include bonsai created by Australia's leaders in native bonsai.
The book reflects on the environmental and climate influence on the matrix of the habitats of Australia's diverse flora. It examines the various genera which are reliable and proven candidates for bonsai cultivation. In drawing out the differences between broadleaf and conifer habit, the book goes on to describe a variety of stylistic models, in particular those suited to the broadleaf category, which mimic trees found in the natural environment. A stylistic approach which might be regarded as naturalistic is advocated above any classical conifer formulae. The many cultivation practices and development methodologies used in the creation of an Australian native bonsai are also covered.
