Summary:

Correspondence (1977-1983) includes letters between the Council and students, officials of the Australian Development Assistance Bureau, and educational institutions. Minutes of General, Executive and Annual General Meetings (1974-1988). Material relating to Council activities and programmes (1977-1985) including students accommodation, reception, country and holiday hospitality, induction and orientation programmes, International Night, and social functions. Minutes of interstate co-ordinating committees for overseas student welfare around Australia (1973-1986), including the Melbourne Council for Overseas Students, Sydney Committee for Overseas Students, Council for the Welfare of Overseas Students W.A. and similar bodies in Adelaide, Brisbane, Armidale, Geelong, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Illawarra, Toowoomba and Rockhampton.

Biography/History:

Established ca. 1963, the Council became one of a number of government funded community organisations concerned with welfare needs of overseas students in Australia, and with the promotion of international understanding. After 1988 it was known as the Canberra Council for International Students.
