Summary:

MS 7379 comprises files of correspondence, memoranda and reports relating to Thorn's involvement with the National Library, ALBIS, AACOBS, Professional Officers' Association, Library Association of Australia, CSIRO, the Library of Congress and other libraries. There are also papers relating to his overseas trips, diaries, and plans of the High Court (42 boxes, 3 fol. boxes).

The Acc12.079 instalment comprises a photograph of W.D. Thorn riding his bicycle to work at the National Library, taken in April 1976 by Ros Kamprad, assistant photographer at the National Library (1 packet).

The Acc13.130 instalment comprises records relating to The Odd Volume of Librarians and includes correspondence, postcards, notices and two volumes of proceedings (1 packet)

Biography/History:

Librarian. William Darbyshire (Bill) Thorn was a staff member of the National Library for thirty-three years, attaining the level of assistant director-general before he retired, in 1987.
