William Berge Phillips, former President of the International Swimming Federation, speaks about swimming as a junior for Abbotsford Swimming Club and later Manly Swimming Club; playing water polo for the Bondi Club; serving as an officer of the New South Wales Swimming Association since 1933; his association with the Australian Swimming Union since 1940; first Open Australian Swimming Championships in 1946; 1948 Olympics; planning and conducting swimming and water polo at 1956 Olympics; Australian performance in swimming, diving and water polo at Olympics and Commonwealth Games, 1960 to 1980; discussion of television rights at 1965 meeting of International Olympic Committee; formation of the International Federation of Sports; suspension of South Africa from international competition; other instances of political interference in sport; his involvement with the Lions Club; and the future of swimming in Australia.
