Letters and documents. Eighteen letters, some with transcripts, written between 1853-1889. The earliest letters are from Ireland to new Australian immigrants. Beginning on 20 August 1853, they are mostly written by William and Eliza Dalton to Johanna and her brother, Ned. A letter of 5 May 1856, written by Mary Dugan, shows the plight of mother left in the old country without any means of support. Three letters of 1889 are written by James O'Shea, of 161 Nelson Road, South Melbourne. The documents include original copies of two sworn statements of 1844 relating to disputes over livestock.
